ABOUT THE ACFL FOREST MONITORING PROJECT >

Forests are changing rapidly all across our land. Climate change, urbanization, and changes in hydrology create worrying signs of stress for red cedars, Douglas firs and big-leaf maples. We are tracking these changes in order to better understand them.

Transition Fidalgo and Friends leads this project, and is partnered by the City of Anacortes, Friends of the Forest, the Skagit Land Trust, and professional and citizen scientists from our community.

Our three objectives:

1. to get to know our forest better - we care for things that we know more intimately;

2. to document current conditions and then to track how the forest is responding and changing;

3. to make that data available to researchers and land managers, to learn how forests respond and if/how we can help them adapt more successfully.
